Re: Wife wants to go to New Orleans for her birthday
Louisiana has some some very relaxed fishing regs, so if you get the chance to fish, go after red fish! In Florida we can only keep one per fisherman per day within a slot of 18" to 27".

In downtown New Orleans, there is a casino, it used to Harrah's, don't know if it still is or not. It's located just adjacent to the Aquarium of the Americas, and the New Orleans World Trade Center tower. You see a lot of diplomatic plates on vehicles around the WTC. Anyway, the Harrah's has a nice hotel attached and a parking garage, and it is walking distance to the French Quarter. To the west on I-10 the Atchafalaya Swamp, one of the most beautiful places on earth, and there is GREAT fishing there, and alligator tours and stuff.

Also, there is a WWII museum in New Orleans. Hope you have an enjoyable trip. Keep your sight seeing confined to the French Quarter/downtown area. Only go the cemetery with a guided tour (their are projects right there at the cemeteries and people have been shot, killed, raped, robbed etc. from by the people who live in the projects), and if you have a concealed carry license, use it. The last time I went to New Orleans I did what I always do in big cities. I got off the beaten path and shunned the touristy stuff. I went to the cemeteries with just myself and my buddy Tim. We ended up driving around in the projects, then ended up driving around in a very poor area that just kept going and going and going. I was glad I had my pistols, because we went through areas where we obviously were NOT welcomed. I just cranked up the country music and smiled and waved. Anyhoo, have a fun and safe trip!
