If you ain't a MOD why are you looking guys?? ;)
OK a friends wife swapped ends with this little puppy so they are taking it out of their small car collection.
Anyway I was on the phone with him while he was looking and admiring LubeDudes work on ebay.

Sorry JB as with LD we didnt think of it like that.

He told me that they were going to have to sell 5 cars so nothing would have to sit outside anymore. Go figure.. 3800 sq ft shop!

Told me I should buy that Opel GT I was looking at last year.. after all his wife wasn't ever going to drive it again anyway..

I told him no I really couldn't afford it. He said for me he would drop the price from 3400 to 2500.. and I said no.. he then said he would throw in a set of chrome spoke wheels/rims.. I said thanks but no.. then he said I'll deliver! (6 hour drive each way over the cascade pass)
Again I said no thank you! We hung up..

Afterwards LD's ebay listing ended and I got to thinking about that GT.. have wanted one since 1973 when a Friend bought one..
So I emailed him and told him if he delivered Sunday I would have cash waiting.. Ugg he delivered at noon..
As LD said in his first post I also consider you here on iboats a extended family. So I have two questions...
The first doesn't matter except to me.. Do you think I paid too much for it?? I think I paid about the right price. $2500.00
The second question is.. what do you know about the drive train?? Good and bad?
Ive been told that it is good..
Bob delivered it Sunday.. runs like a raped Ape!
I dont know anything about them exscept I like the looks.. and as a plus so does Mrs.Link and her mom like it..
The color will change..
These are two quick pics I took..

Re: Wife Swap

My dad had one for years and used it to commute 45 miles. The engine/drivetrain is great. Check the electric. We put two wiring harnesses in it.

They are fun little cars and a blast to drive. Surprising room inside also. It was soooo funny watching my dad get in and out. He is 6' 7" and you wouldnt think he would fit. He had pretty good leg room once inside though. :)

Enjoy it.

Re: Wife Swap

I think I remember my Opel trivia correctly.

The Opel GT had the same running gear as the 1900 series sedans. The body was steel, not fiberglas like its big brother the vette. I believe the body was supplied by a company in France, even though the assembly was in Germany.

You did good, it certainly is a neat special interest car that is not seen often these days.

Jinx

Hey link, where are the chromed spoke wheels? That's a cool car. Hope you have some indoors to store it in.

Re: Wife Swap

That is a good looking car. Looks good on the outside and on the inside too. I think it is worth every penny you paid for it. What is the horsepower on this car and how big is the engine? It would look really good if you spend some elbow grease on it and a new set of wheels.

Re: Wife Swap

Thanks for the replies guys.
To be honest the pics make it look cleaner than it really but thats ok.
Might drive it a little during the summer. In the mean time we will be going to a local opel club and attend events this summer to get ideas. And reading forums on them. The only book I have is a 70 service manual.

Won't even think about tearing it down for paint or other work until this winter. By that time I will know exactly what I want to do with it.

Its a 1972 GT and jinx your most likely correct. As far as I know its 1.9 (4 cylinder) with a little over 100 hp at somewhere between 5400 and 6000 RPM and the body is steel and weighs somewhere between 1800 and 2000 pounds...
Going to be a good learning experience.

Boomyal
The spoked wheels are already in a garage and right now I just parked it at my MILs house and put a car cover on it.
I love boats.. cant believe I'm old enough to like LD to get into cars ;)
Going to be fun! :D

Re: Wife Swap

Being from Europe i know these cars, although there arnt much left of them anymore. Great car. You almost cant kill any part of the drivetrain. There are lots of parts available over here, and this motor was common with their 1.9, 2.0 sedan, a model where motor outlasted body in almost all cases, as we have a wet rusty climate here. I even know a guy who had ( maybe has ) a complete car standing and I thing he is giving up to restore the body.
