Thought they were the same motor with different stickers. I'm looking at a 5 or 6 horse 4 stroke and the Nissan is $35 more. No big deal but now I'm curious. Nissan's have something more I'm not seeing?

How'd I get two identical posts? Delete this one if you want. Seems I'm not allowed to.

The saleman wears nicer looking clothes at Nissan. Someone has to pay for that. :D

Hi Ducker...

I really don't know the answer to your question...but I can surmise.

You might know that the two engines are the same...but most people wouldn't....and the Nissan name is certainly more recognizable than Tohatsu.

They probably feel that the Nissan name will bring another $35.00.

Or, maybe one vendor is just willing to make $35.00 less? That's not much of a difference really...

Do they come with the exact same stuff??? Same Prop; Same gastank? Instructions printed in English?

Thanks for reading, Chuck

Same seller, identical descriptions. Different price. It's actually Elvin's place. Does he ever post here or just the Honda/Nissan repair forum? Guess I could email him direct.

I saw it posted somewhere saying it was just a name recognization thing. The small Mercury is the same motor also and they want more also.

Re: Why the price difference between Nissan & Tohatsu?

Tohatsu has to pay a royalty fee to Nissan for each engine that has that label...So they mark the Nissan's up to recover the fee. Mercury costs more because Mercury can get away with it. A lot of people don't know they are the same engine and others think that the more expensive a product is the better it must be. Those are the same people who don't question why a rabbit delivers chicken eggs once a year. :D

Elvin!
Are you implying that...... that bunny doesn't deliver those eggs?????? Uggghhh...next thing you will be saying is that there is no big fat guy dressed in a red suit coming to my house on December 25th.....

No, I'm sure the bunny does deliver the eggs...But, my question is....Why a bunny? Should it not be an Easter chicken? Or at least an Easter E-Tech? :)

Elvin, you said (Easter)E-Tec?? I should wash your mouth out with soap... So, if you get an E -Tec on Easter....does that mean you get a TLDI on Thanksgiving?

No, the TLDI comes on Christmas. You get a Honda on Turkey day.
