I read and surf on alot of boating websites.I have a 1996 wellcraft excel 26se, and I have noticed that their are not many around and dont seem to be a very popular boat. Why is this? Are they a smaller company and cant put out the units? Are they not a good boat? Are they catering to a different group of owners (ie center console, scarabs?) Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

The Excell is a good boat, not the best boat Wellcraft ever made but it is good...that being said, the Excell is not the typical wellcraft, it was built as an affordable, entry level boat, not typical wellcraft. Chris Craft did the same thing with the Consept, figuring on breaking into the bayliner ,lower priced market...problem is it backfired, since the boats weren't of the quality of there better line, the boats didn't last, and had problems from owners who figured they were buying a more solid, better built boat. Nothing wrong with the boats just not the upper line of Wellcraft boat.

You may have come up with the answer with your own questions. If you go to their website you'll see the line of boats that they are selling now. Seems they are concentrating their business on fewer models then they used to.

I checked out a couple of mid-90's Excels (a 23 and a 26) when I was looking for my weekender. Nice boats, good room, pretty well laid out. I was impressed with the space utilization in the 23, but wanted to go just a bit bigger. The 26 was simply a little more "used" than I was looking for.

You want rare? Buy a C-C 240 Express. There's like, 3 of them in the world :)
