Why can't I find this boat on Nada??

Looking to buy my first boat.
Going tonight to inspect.
Here is the craigslist ad:
For Sale
1992 17? Bayliner Capri 1700 with trailer. Great Running Mercruiser 3.0liter I/O $3200 OBO
Life Jackets, Skis, tube and Ropes included


I can't find a 92 Bayliner 17' on NADA with an I/O.

Is this a good setup for a 1st timer?
Thoughts on the engine?

Because it is probably the 18'r and not a 17. It's about $1000 high as per nada

What are the odds that this has the dreaded "L" drive I know nothing about but read bad things?

The L drive was an OMC creation, this has a mercruiser in it per your description, so no worries about that.

That is a good first boat. The 3.0 Mercruiser is a rock solid engine/drive and good power for that boat. However as with any older fiberglass boat you need to check very carefully for rot. You want a solid deck and transom. Rot can easily turn a good deal very bad. $3200 may be an OK deal or a tad high depending on where you are located assuming it's immaculate. Subtract $$ for anything that needs replacing.

It was a 91, not a 92, which clears up the NADA confusion

Ultimately I passed. The interior was rough to say the least. I'm gonna hold out for something a little nicer and increase my budget by $1k or so.
