It’s an old Mercury outboard 9.8 or 9.9. I’d like to find some spare and replacement parts, but can’t because apparently my motor doesn’t exist. I’m In Canada, and I have searched both Canadian and US websites, I even called many Mercury dealers, they all tell me the exact same thing….S/N not found???? I have attached a photo the S/N plate with the number. Thanks!!!

Welcome to iboats Magnum.

It appears you have a Merc motor manufactured not in the USA, not in Belgium, But in Canada. :)

Most charts don't list the Canadien built motors.

Check out the chart, left hand column, near the bottom. Also note the column that says Canada Start serial #.

Thanks, I appreciate the quick response. It’s funny as I stated I live in Canada yet all of the Mercury dealers can’t find any information in my motor. I want a replacement prop as I don’t believe the prop that’s on it is the proper one. So I’m trying to find the right one so I can change it then keep the old one as an emergency spare. Any suggestions? Thanks again.

Ok, but some sites are showing a 2 blade and others a 3 blade. So confusing when ya can’t get a proper part number.

This is very true. In Alberta with our fresh water and short seasons there is still tons of these older engines kicking around. A lot of dealers primarily focus on new boat sales, and very little on parts, and service especially if they're primarily an RV/sled dealers.

Michigan Wheel still makes 2 props for that engine. They're obsolete from Merc.

A lot bring in their old "mint" engines, and when given the Estimate, decide they aren't willing to spend $1500 on a 40+ yr old engine, nor do they want to pay for the time to diagnose, and do the Estimate. Some just walk away, abandoning the motor.

Sometimes that's best they walk away before it becomes a cascading wallet eater.
