Thats true, unless you are implying that those who HAVE to are stupid. Sometimes you have to do things that you don;t want to because you need to do them to survive. NOT because you are stupid. It's entirely possible that a number of misfortunes occured to force a person of high intelligence to work at Wal-Mart. That is not stupidity, no matter how you slice it.<br /><br />For the record I still think that IQ tests are bogus. They may show that a person has a great ability to learn, and think outside the "box", but they mean absolutly nothing with regard to knowledge. Again this is just a battle of semantics, but to me inteligence and knowledge sre different. I dont think that a person with low IQ is dumb, but instead has difficulty gathering knowledge and applying what they learn. Thats not to say they can't do it. I am not trying to defend myself. I dont have a low IQ, its in the 130 range.<br /><br />To me a true test of dumb or not dumb is the SAT or ACT. Its not only testing intelligence and the ability to recognize things, but also the ability to obtain, retain, and apply the knowldedge one might have gained. Quietcat......congrats with your son's SAT's........We use the ACT mostly here so I never took the SAT's. Took the ACT's once. Got a 33.

I want to make it very clear here that I'm not talking about you or anyone else in particular...but unfortuneately there are people here and everywhere else that DO judge people only by age. I bet that is very true and frustrating. I'll bet when you walk out they feel differently Let it go, you're awesome and they'll know soon enough. Come to think of it, I had my first field assignment when I was 20, I can relate. When they learned that I knew our product, they called me and asked me to come out. I loved turning them around.<br /><br />edit: Yeah, I kinda messed that up like Pony too. I still think you should be proud of that and not angry that others expect less. You need to remember that you are an exception to many rules . . .

ZmOZ, I'm glad things are going well for you now. It is obvious that you have planned your own course and from what I can tell you are in the drivers seat. Not sure what story to use, lets just say that you are a car driver and on either side of the road there are very deep clifts. I hope you can keep your "car" on the road........ you might, on the otherhand you may end up down the cliff. Somehow, I have the feeling WHEN that happens you will dust yourself off and climb back up. Make no mistake about it, it will happen, that is what experience brings...the knowledge that a twenty something year old who is "feeling his oats" and thinks he is on top of the world"...will fall flat on his arse at some point and time. If you think this could not possibly happen to you....you are an idiot ! I am not critising you, I am speaking about the law of averages. That kind of brings us back to the purpose of this post, the young man cannot see that he might fail.....at anything. The old man fears that he will fail....at everything....and it won't be that big of a deal. The truely intelligent make a plan for both.<br />That would have been a great line to go out on....but...I have to say this: Mainly aimed at Zmoz, at your age there is someone older who has something to say, it could be just negative bullsheet,(and some of it is) but I guarantee that there is one word of wisdom that you need to hear...you need to find that...it will save your arse. At some point in time, years will pass.....guess what, you are now the "old fart" and there will be many "young idiots" most of what they say will not mean much, your "experience" will tell you better.....but there will be one young person who truely has their "finger on the trigger" that IF you listen to them....and apply your experience, you will come out ahead. This happens every twenty years.

Ok, the last post ended up on the business front....back to home. I have a sixteen year old son, and like many of the previuos posters I am wondering what planet he is from. The only thing that keeps me sane is to try to remember myself at that age....yes, I can do it. Lets see, my parents were stupid and seriously lame, I was an adult, and knew everthing. Once you get into that frame of mind it becomes easy to see where your teenager's mind is at. How to deal with it......that is kind of rough. Try to tell them your trials and experiences....forget it! Try to keep them from making the same mistakes you did....again....forget it. Tell them to not do what you did and tell them you will "kick their arse"....that should work!

Since you are so thin skinned. This is not directed towards, or about you. You will get over your age hang up in about 20 years btw! <br /><br />The weirdest Birthday presant Mr.Link ever asked for was to take the Mensa IQ test. <br />Give me a toy that any 7-10 year old boy would like and I'm happy! Tests are work! <br /><br />Anyway she takes it and gets accepted etc. btw I think 1% because she was pretty pleased. And she get really ticked off with anything less than 100%on standard tests/grades.<br /><br />Jump ahead about a year at a BBQ. Someone asked me if I had ever heard of Mensa. I said yes but<br />I don't know anything about it, ask Mrs.Link, she is a member.<br />HERSELF corrected me and said no I'm not a member.<br /><br />I was stunned! I knew how important it had been to her. She checked the mail every day until she got the results!<br /><br />She said that she tought she wanted to join until reading the material/news letters etc.<br />Her opinion was that they were just intellectual snobbs and she had her fill of them in college. That's another reason why I'm no longer a member. It's just nice to know that I qualify to be a member, especially any time somebody wants to bring up an "I'm smarter than you!" arguement. Frankly I can't stand "intellectual type" people. I doubt there's many Mensa members with hands covered in scars from working outside of a classroom like mine are. I can have alot more fun with a welder than a book any day.<br /><br /><br />

Well, I've only got a few more years to go before I'm set for life. I'm dead serious about what I said in the other thread...I will be able to retire in approximately 10 years. Most of the money I make goes directly into various investments.<br /><br />Maybe I'll get a job at Walmart handing out stickers to pass the time.

Z, while i know I have given you some some age related grief, I have only done it because I have been there. I had progressed from private to sergeant, had 10 men under me, responsible for every aspect of their lives, signed for and responsible for millions of dollars worth of equipment, and was married by the time I hit 20. The old farts gave me grief, and as far as I was concerned, they could stuff it because I was more succesful than they were, and I did it at a younger age. <br /><br />Then the fun stuff happened, the stuff that really grows you up. Had a kid, got deployed overseas, the wife went on a series of self-destructive cheating and boozing escapades that left me divorced, bankrupt, and alone. I then had to rebuild again, doing things smarter, making better choices. All I am saying is that no matter how smart we are, we still get our arse handed to us, and we have to adapt or fail. <br /><br />I'm really glad you are on a good business track, and I hope you do retire in 10 years, and I hope everything goes well. By the sounds of it, you are doing all the smart things to try to prepare for the future. Just never discount the fact that things can and do happen, and you can be out on the street living in a box and wonder how the heck did that happen. <br /><br />Besides, I am still waiting for that Merc 150 to get fixed, I wept a tear the day that thing died...

dang Jason married my Ex's sister.<br /> my ex had some mental issues, placed her in a pshyc ward twice, in the meantime she wracked up about 68K in credit card debts on cards I never knew existed and my signature was forged on a bunch of them.<br /> she never paid a nickle, took me 4 years to pay them off.<br /> I am debt free now.<br />my health was not good then, thats why the navy medically retired me, another unplanned event.<br /> its worse now, for almost 3 years I had no days off, no vacations. for two years I worked every day, chistmas,new yeras and thanksgiving included. in the same time I also had custody of both kids.<br /> both of them are mad at me today for the time spent away, I paid for many trips for them to the west coast and the gulf coast to go visit for summers and christmases.<br /> but I had to pay off the debts, my health is worse now, partly due to the work load. but I am done, I owe no one.<br />when this place sells ill walk with 400-700K in my hip pocket.<br /> that coupled with my 400 a month military pension and I am gonna retirte down south. if I invest wisely and without to much in high risk stuff Ill retire fully and teach someplace oneday.<br /> I owe a debt to a shop teacher from Hogan High in Vallejo CA.<br /> only way to repay it is to find an idiot like I was at 16 and teach him/her something.<br /> he taught me how to live as well as how to work.<br /> so Z while your sucessful and on the high road, dont judge those of us on the low road, we may actually enjoy it .<br /> a funny thing though, last fuel systems school I attended my lab partner had never seen a carburator, he was 21. how could that be you ask, no mileage I reply.
