I grew up water skiing but have gotten away from it. We have recently purchased a 1996 Bayliner with 120 hp and new skis. My first outing was not easy, I dropped the ski alright but proceeded to get splashed in the face to the point it was comical. What gives? Is it my skis? My boat? or me?

I vote for too slow as well!

I know when the driver slows down in a corner my Radar Senate sprays me quite a bit. The slower the boat, the worse the spray!

Cheers

I think the proper speed fo slalom is 25-26 mph. At least that's what I was told a long time ago. The boat should hold speed while cornering too.I've skiid behind underpowered boats before, yup hard to hang on and get sprayed in the face!

The proper speed depends on a few factors, but I prefer 30mph for open water skiing. The lighter the rider and longer the ski, the slower you can go. Slalom tournaments are skied between 32-36mph. If you're 200 lbs on a 67" ski, I would go less than 28.

25-26 for an adult? What kind of ski are you using at that speed - I'd be sinking even on my fat ski.

When we are using my Obrien Evidence 69" for the kid (150lbs) we run around 28, for me (185lbs) 32mph

pulling a slalom skier was always around 33-35mph. 25mph is the limit I pull tubes at.

Speed is an issue, also you will get more spray hanging out in the wake. I ski a few times a week so I hope I have it down by now. wakeboard 18-25 mph two skis 24 to 28 mph. slalom 32to 38 mph open water, 34 to 36 mph tournament. the range depends on skiers weight and conditions. Also try skiing down wind for less spray.

Yeah like I said,it was a long time ago when I was told that and I was pretty light back then. I have been skiing at around 30 to 35 for awhile now and I dont get so tired at that speed!
