Here is the deal. I have my email (not LiveMail) synced up with my android smart phone. It uses the 'imap' protocol which I believe is the only way it will work. Now I usually leave my Data Connection turned off so it only periodically downloads any email from my email server.

When I turn the Data function on to use various features, it will download any new emails residing with the server. If they happen to be emails that I have not yet downloaded to my PC, via Outlook Express, and I delete them off my smartphone, it deletes them from the server and are no longer available to download on my PC. I seldom try to read emails on my smartphone so this happens regularly.

The POP3 setup on my PC is set up not to delete emails from the server when OE fetches them. How can I achieve this on my SmartPhone with the Imap setup? I see no provision to do this in the email setup on my phone.

That is how IMAP works. IMAP doesn't "download" your messages to the phone, just the headers. When you read a message you are temporarily downloading the whole message so you can view it. When you hit delete you are telling it to delete from the server.

Thanks, I guess I will just have to be sure that I don't delete them before I open up OE on my PC.

Or change the settings on your server.

Internet E-mail settings: Leave copy on server.

That is a client setting, and I'm pretty sure you are talking about a pop3 setting anyways.

That's what I do on my PC pop3 setups. That way I can retrieve the email from any one of my 2 PC's or Laptop.

I'm going to have to dig further to see if I can use POP3 on my android but something tells me I can't?
