Who made the Crescent 4HP?

Hi everyone,

I'm new here, and hope to be welcome. I've just been given a Crescent 4HP 2 stroke outboard, but can't find any information on it (using Google). There's also a badge on it saying "MCB", but that could be a supplier or service agent.

I'm hoping someone here will know the brand, and can tell me who actually made it - and maybe when? I have vague memories of seeing these advertised in the U.K. as a cheap and cheerful motor.

I know that many names were put on motors from the big manufacturers, perhaps to sell lower quality at a cheaper price or older models still in production but not good enough for the major branding.

I believe it to be about 40 years old, and it hasn't run for at least 35 years. It was simply "put to bed" with an oil change and left all that time. I'd like to get hold of a manual if possible, and try to resurrect it - although more as an exercise in "can it be done" than with definite intentions.

Thanks for any pointers.

Welcome to iboats.

Crescent are swedish in origin. They started out making most 2stroke toys (scooters, outboards etc) under the names of Crescent and Monark which later became VolvoPenta.

There was also a Crescent high performance racing motor made back in the 1960s as well. Same company - completely different product...
