Miloman.... It would have been better to continue on with the initial post rather than to have many posts scattered around that pertain to the same engine.

Where your battery cables connect to the battery there is surface space lacking for the transfer of a lot of current. Buy some Marine Terminals in brass and use them on all subsequent batteries. Keep all surfaces clean of oxidation as well but in your case their isn't enough transfer surface for the large load.

Did you try to put a volt meter on the battery and see what it reads. It could be you just cranked it to long got the leads warm and now there is not enough juice in the battery to turn the motor over.

I would do the Starter myself. Very easy and will save you some dollars.Look below for prices. There are other places to get them, too. The one for yours is about $215.00. If you have a shop around that rebuilds car starters, they could do it for around $50.00.

Starters

Oh yeah, if a shop does it, I would guess at least $500.00 for everything. some of the Mechanics on here could probably get closer on the price.

Miloman,

Probably not much help, but I know a good guy in Blind River, Ontario that runs an outboard shop and does good work. He is no doubt very busy now getting snomobiles ready to go, and it is six hours north and west of you, but I thought I would throw it out there.

Part of the advantage of doing the work yourself is that you can take the time to be methodical and careful and do it right. The key to this is to take a deep breath, and tackle one problem at a time. A starter is not a big deal, for example, nor is a seal. Taken one at a time, these problems are manageable with the help available here and a good shop manual.

John
