Was playing with some left over pop bottle rockets down by the pond and one went straight into the water. I figured the water put it out but no. It went 10 or 20 feet and then "BLOOP" as it exploded and a big bubble of smoke came up. Just had to try a few more to make certain it wasn't a fluke. It wasn't, they all did the same thing.

To cool, I can think of all sorts of mischief for this discovery!!! :D

I knew it. Ya know those legal ones that just flash real bright? I tossed some of those in the river when I was younger and it was awesome underwater :D

most propellants have their own oxidizer so they don't need oxygen to burn...

hence they will burn underwater.

Not a bottle rocket but years ago a friend and I were out in his 12 ft tinny. We would tape a .45 caliber lead ball to an M80 and throw it in the lake. It was really neat, especially in the dark. The weighted M80 was probably several several feet under water when it went off and it would make a huge colored bubble on the surface.

At one point when we were motoring along, I threw one out over the bow. That thing was like a depthcharge. It went off amidship as we were passing over it. It was like someone took a sledge hammer to the bottom of my bare feet. It actually distorted the rivited keel strip and water started to seep in. My friend still has that boat today and never fails to remind me of the dent in the bottom of it.

Ahh, the age of mischief. Used to take the bottle rockets and break off the stick, put it down in the dirt of mother's flower bed. Made little smoking craters, like a tiny dinamite. But don't put them in the ant hills. When they go airborn, they always land pissed!

Ahh yes.

As a teenager, waking up in the woods, hungover, broke and hungry, my buds and I used to tie the old "ash cans" to a stick and run it down into a nest. Can't tell you how many sunnies and bluegills we ate that way.

^^^^known around these parts as a bottle rocket-- a small rocket with a thin footlong stick to make it fly straight. the fly about a 100feet and explode like a black cat.---they go about 5 feet under water before they explode.

you are supposed to set the stick in a coke bottle and light the fuse.
more fun to light and throw by the stick and yell "Hey Bubba ,Watch This!":D
