Thanks DDennis.
I have bought a 40 hp japanese built Mariner. 40EO 6E9 S 150368
I can't find the year or the correct carb kit. I believe these are yamaha engines, would a yamaha carb kit fit. If so how do I find the right one.
The motor has to be choked to get it moving. Then the choke has to be pushed in at the just the right time to keep it running. Once the choke is all the way in the motor doesn't run at full speed at wide open throttle. The motor has always been winterized but has sat for a while. Will a carb clean do the trick?

Re: Who can help

That model number is actually a Yamaha-generated number. While number sequences differentiate the Mariners form true Yamahas, the first three are in common. So the same basic Yamaha is also a 6E9. They probably use the same carb, or at least the same body with minor differences. It does indeed sound like it needs a good cleaning. As near as I can tell, it's a 1989. So a carb kit for a 1989 Yamaha 40 should work (probably any 6E9 Yamaha 40).
