My 1997 suzuki 200 is emitting a white smoke this year. The exhaust port has a carbon build up too. I have only used one tank of gas (50 gallons) which was the same gas in tank during winter storage. all fogging oil has been burned off. Is the carbon buld up and smoke related? I was forced to use 93 octane last fill up, and usually look for 89 or 90 since the motor seems to run better w/lower octane. Is there anything to worry about? overall the engine is running great. Thanks.

Re: White smoke

If the smoke is white it is water.

If there is a blue tint to it , it is oil.

Black smoke would be fuel.

Re: White smoke

the smoke is white. when you say water you mean water in the gas? i have a water/fuel separator at the fuel filter, and it looks okay. should i add something (like drygas) to the gas?

Leaking head gasket.
Crack in Cyl.
When was the last time the head bolts were torqued?
If that don't get it your going to have to pull the head

Re: White smoke

Most outboards push smoke because most are 2 strokes. So they are burning oil thats mixed in the gas. That smoke is blue.

White is water and I would be willing to bet a bunch its not coming from the gas.

Keep an eye on it to see if it gets worse. If it does, stop running it and have it checked out .You might be able to catch a small problem early before it gets big later.

Re: White smoke

The most common water leakage point on the V-6 Suzuki is the exhaust cover gasket, second is the head gasket. Retorque both.

Re: White smoke

I noticed some "steam" this year from my outboard. When I looked at other boats I noticed "steam" also. Since your from Long Island like me The air and water temps are around 50° now and a little bit of dissipating steam can be expected. Check for this on a warm, dry day and see if it still exists.
