New to outboards so maybe this is nothing. I noticed this white smoke coming from the back of the outboard while on the water. Does it more when I idel. is something wrong?

Looks exactly like my boat. I have a 1989 Capri 1902 also, and she smokes just the same! Its because of the Two Stroke motor. also known as a "2-Smoke". Its the nature of the motor burning oil with the fuel. You did add oil to the gas when you filled it first though right?

Yes I filled with gas then did the math on how much 2 cycle I needed.

Never put the gas in first.
Put in the oil 1 pint and then 6 gal then another pint and 6 gal.
It doesn't mix as well if you add it afterwords.
It can just set on the bottom and get sucked up and REALLY smoke.
Then after it's burned up then the gas won't have enough oil and possible damage to the motor.

Ok so I did as you said but apparently my gas gauge is not accurate enough. I added 16 oz of oil then added 6 gal of gas, then added 16 oz of oil but it only took 4 gallons of gas. How bad is the gas/oil mixture now on my outboard? Is it going to hurt it not being at 50:1?

Better to run a bit richer.Than to not have it mixed.
I have a collection of oil bottles.
I refill from a gallon jug.
I have 3 gal and 6 gal and 12 gal containers.
But I can see my tank.
