I have 2001 130 yammie which has what looks like salt build-up around each of the head gaskets. How does this form as the engine does not show any sign of water getting inside. Is it anything to worry about? :(

David

Nothing to worry about. Water "wicks" out of the gaskets and whats left is salt after it dries. This is "Very" common on saltwater used Yammies.

recheck your head bolt torque. otherwise use a good quality corrosion protection. my favourite is the "volvo corrosion shield" in a blue can.
head gaskets are very simple to change and are a worthwhile investment especially in a salt water environment. 3 years is too soon however unless you have had an overheat issue. change the exhaust cover gaskets at the same time. good luck

My 1993 225 used a LOT in salt doesn't show any deposits around the heard gaskets.

hello
it happens all the time. usually more often on boats that are not sprayed with Fluid film or similar gooey yuck. I guess you can scrape it off and snort it :) :) .
good luck, wash the motor and coat it with Fluid-Film
