Could have been one of those bighead carp, also known as the flying fish... Those are the ones that have been introduced into the Mississippi and have spread all over the place... They are native to Asia somewhere...
There are two varieties,,,
Here is a pic of a few carp...
The top fish is a Silver the middle is a grass carp, and the bottom one is the Bighead...
The silver and bighead are the ivasive fish from china that have entered our waterways..

Sterile grass carp have been introduced into some Texas lakes to control plant growth, esp. hydrilla. Funny thing, state law requires you to immediately remove the intestines from any grass carp caught, unless it's a lake with a grass carp permit in which case you must release it unharmed.

Ever been hit by one of those flying carps, kclost?

jtexas,

No I haven't but I haven't been on the rivers that they are know to be in around here...

I do know that they are in the Missouri right through Kansas City, as well as all the tributaries that drain into it... They have made it up to just below the Dam of my home lake "Smithville" just north of the city. They are being snagged fairly often... What scares me is if they make it into the lake. It is full of grass and they could destroy the entire habitat...
