Which towing position

Which position would you tow this motor in? I’ve got about 8-10 inches from the skeg to the ground when it’s all the way down. Let’s call the position a number of the picture so if you’d rather tow with motor all way down #3, all the way up #2 etc,

Thanks!

I personally would prefer #3 but that would also depend on the terrain I was towing on.

I wouldn't go any higher than needed, but...no matter where you position it, it needs held in position so it can't bounce up and down !!

Use a motor deflopinizer (aka a transom saver)

A transom saver is very effective and more elegant, but you can use a one inch dowel or a piece of 2 by 2. Tie it in to keep it place.

All the way down....or take it off and lay it in bottom of boat or bed of truck....it's just a 9.9hp......

All the way down, no contest.

MY argumentative FIL with a tinny didn't agree with that position and always would trail all the way up. "I told him so" One day on a rough road the motor fell off........and took the transom with it. No common sense any more.

Agreed----If there is 8" road clearance you tow with motor down.----Easiest on the transom and motor brackets.----Tow with motor in gear.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I’ve Towed with it all the way down myself without a transom saver without issue. Got into a discussion today about it, and it thought to myself I’ll ask the forum.

I've towed in position #2 using the trailer lock, in case of hydraulic failure, on my motor for the past 20 years now.

In reality, the center of gravity of an outboard (power head) is sitting almost directly over the steering tube. Makes little, if any difference to the forces exerted on the transom whether a motor with power trim is trailered up or down.

The motor in question does not have power trim.----Should be towed with motor down.
