Which Steering?

Hello all?I?m new to these waters?

I recently acquired a 1955 Crestliner Voyager 15 foot with a ?65 Johnson 40HP in need of fixing up. It?s been used as a fishing boat using stick steering. I want to get the steering back to the original position.

My question is which steering system is best for this boat?...Teleflex SS132 or go for the SS147.

Opinions welcome?
Thanks,

Re: Which Steering?

That boat likely came with the old vinyl-covered steel cable and plastic pully-type steering. if you want to go back to OEM, that is the kind to install. If you want a more up-to-date steering, the cheapest Teleflex steering package is the way to go. You will need one of those steering tube adaptors since that motor is not designed for cable steering.

Thanks for the heads up on needing the adaptor fellas...

tashasdaddy...I looked at the link you provided. Is that kit used on power assist only or can it be used on my application as well?

Thanks again...

Thanks for the input...I think I may go that route.

...Geez...the price of those steering adaptors are a bit on the high side! Looks like a person would be able to fab one up for a fraction of the cost.
