Which Sparkplug????Evinrude te40elcec '89

I am getting conflicting info. about this. My manual says L77JC4, the ones in the engine are QL78YC, another reference online showed QL78C. What difference does the "Y" make?

I believe you have the correct plug in now. Looks like it changed in 1989 from QL77JC4's to the QL78YC. Y? I don't know Y.

The "Y" denotes protruding nose.The "C" denotes sawed groove electrode and round ground strap.Use the QL78YC.Here's a code chart. web pageChampion sparkplug decoding
