I am fairly new to boating. I have 20' stingray bowrider. I plan on boating at lakes around PA and also long the chesapeake and delaware bays. Should I get a GPS or Chartplotter. I am looking to spend under 500 if possible. I could use advice on what to get. Thanks for the help.

Re: Which should I get GPS/Chartplotter

A chartplotter buys you screen size, maps and the associated functions.
If you want to go from point A to point B and back and don't care about how you got there, or what the topography looks like between point A and B then buy a GPS.

If you want full map capabilities, i.e. contour maps of the bottom, etc, and a screen big enough to see the details, then you?ll want a chartplotter.

A good chartplotter is indispensable tool if you're a fisherman.

Get a combo unit. I bought a Raymarine A65 for $300.
