Which sealant for Exhaust gasket?

I will be replacing the lower gasket on the powerhead that connects to the inner exhaust tube on a 76 35hp. I need to know what kind of sealant to use. The manual calls for OMC gasket sealing compound. I cannot find this and need a substitute.<br /><br />Can I use permmatex Indian Head Gasket shellac Compound?

Hello Flexon.<br /><br />Permatex is a very good product. I would use Permatex® High Temp Form-A-Gasket® 1372 Sealant to the exhaust side.<br />Take a look at this page.<br /> http://www.neverseezproducts.com/gasketseal.htm
