Re: Which rod for which purpose?
Here is a little info to help you get an idea of whats out there. I am talking casting rods here. The action of the rod is very important. A fast action rod is fairly stiff and wont give much. Great for fast hook ups when fishing jigs, T-rigs, and finesse type baits. A moderate action rod has a bit more give, good for crankbaits and some live bait guys like them. The power of the rod, Heavy, medium heavy, Is basically the strength of the rod. More or less you get a thicker wall on the graphite with a heavy rod.
I think a 6'6" medium heavy, fast action rod is a great all around set up for bass. It'll work for almost anything you want to do. Top water, jigs, spinner baits, cranks, jerkbaits,, It'll do it all. If you want to do some flipping a longer rod is a must.,,at least 7 foot. If you fish around lots of docks you'll want to use a spinning rod set up at least 6'6" for skipping baits under and around the docks.
Bottom lines is it all comes down to personal preference. I'll use a 7" rod and work jerkbait all day with it, my fishin partner thinks I am nuts and use's a 6 foot rod for the same thing.
