hello, i recently broke the factory prop on my 1983 4HP Johnson Sea Horse and have been looking at new ones. I looked on the Johnson website and found that ther are 3 diffent props i can buy for this motor, thers a 7 1/2x6, a 7 1/2x7 and a 7 1/2x6 1/2 prop available for my motor and i am wondering which one would be best for my boat. I am using this motor on a 12ft deep-v fishing boat. Thanks.

Re: Which prop?

If you would have read the post at the top about "required information", you may have got some help, quicker...no tach, no Idea what to recommend.

Re: Which prop?

It's very unlikely that anyone around here knew what sort of advice to give about propping a 4hp motor. Most of the prop discussion is in regards to much bigger boats.

For my part, I've never owned an outboard that small. 4 HP won't be pushing a 12' boat very fast no matter what prop you put on it so you might as well go with the low pitch (as you did).

And "if" the rpm didn't matter, why would the factory even give an RPM range?????
The tiny-tach is the perfect instrument for that size of an outboard and it's cheap. It all really depends on how long you intend the engine to last.
