Which on-line outboard would you choose?

This will be for an old (1970-ish) Ouachita 14' aluminum boat rated for 10 hp max.<br /><br />Choice #1: 2004 9.9 2-stroke Mercury program engine; 3 year warranty.<br /><br />Choice #2: 2006 9.8 4-stroke Tohatsu, new, 3 year warranty.<br /><br />Weights of the two are within about 10 lbs. of each other and prices including all shipping etc. are just about equal. Both have dealerships within a reasonable distance of where they will be used.<br /><br />So it boils down to "which motor would you prefer to own"?<br /><br />Thanks for your thoughts.

No contest. Tohatsu. 4 stroke is quieter, smoother, virtually smoke free, and much more fuel efficient...especially trolling. You can't beat that!

I found that the Tohatsu will vibrate more noticably at higher RPMs - not anywhere enough to be objectionable - but you'll hardly know its even there when trolling.<br /><br />When in gear at/just above idle I find the noise of the pee hitting the water more noticable than the engine itself. <br /><br />And...no smoke! Routine service and winterizing is a breeze too.

i have that same boat. mine is a 1970 ouachita, or how you spell it....<br /><br />i have a 1988 14hp evinrude commercial model on the back and it hauls major ASSSSSSS<br /><br />but to answer your actual question.... ive always been a fan of tohatsu's and i have always been a fan of 2 strokes.<br /><br />personally though. id get the 2 stroke, cause the merc is actually made by tohatsu anyways.<br /><br />you win either way !
