I am torn I need the mob's opinion.

Default Which motor is more valuable.

Here are the two in question.

1978 150 Hp running condition verified running.

1981 115 hp Documented proof of Carb rebuild, new stator, new water pump, new timer base, two new power packs, new plugs, new gear oil, verified compression numbers verified running.

Here is my thought process

Yes a 6 vs 4

Was looking at trading my 115 for a 150. For the 18 SS, I am not oppossed to my 115 I have completely tuned it out and its awesome running now.

He wants me to a give a little more money on his motor $100.00

Sig - Is fuel consumption a concern?

Do you need/want to go to the 150 --- in other words will you 2, 4, 6 mths from now go "awe crud... I should a gone with the 150"????

Hmmmm.....

I agree the fuel consumption on the V6 compared to the V4 is it worth it to you? I think it is EZ that has some experience with the big ones.

Not so worried about fuel consumption. We are going to say for all purposes my boat is rated at 150.

I would go with the one you know that so much is new. For what it's worth, my v4 140hp pushes my 18' Mariner up to 47 mph with a stainless 21p. I would think the 115 with a 19p should get you up by 40 mph.

The difference in fuel consumption between my 90 V4 and my buddies '79 200 V6 is RIDICULOUS. His is seriously bad. We managed to burn through darn near 6 gallons one weekend just puttering around fishing in a no wake zone. We ran through 22 gallons or so on a longer run in an hour and a half. It was insane. If my motor would to blow, I'd be looking for a 130-140HP V4 looper.

I love my 115 4 stroke. Fuel economy is great and it goes plenty fast enough. Over forty with my 18ss. I've often wondered what a 150 would be like on that boat. I'm thinking crazy fast. Good luck.

Thanks guys I have made my decision, I am going to run the 115 until she finally decides to give up the ghost I believe she will make a great motor, in the mean time I am going to save my pennies for an Etec for with 115 gives up. IDK the 4cyl OMC's do tend to last a long long time soo maybe I will make it 4/5 years before she needs to be replaced.
