Don't waste your time with Clymers. I got a good Merc shop service manual for my 73 Merc 500 on ebay...but it doesn't show carbs. But I found diagrams at this site:<br />
www.pfs-ware.com then click on John's Old Merc Page. Click on barfs Merc reference page on John's Old Merc page and then look for the carb info. Pretty decent diagrams, but doesn't show you how to get to the carbs to get them off. Oh well, we'll keep looking. Let me know if you find this type of info.
