I am looking at gettting a new boat, and the two dealers I am working with have to different engines. One has the 140 suzuki and one has the 140 johnson.... which is a better outboard?? I know that this may be a biased question... but any information would be great... thanks Doug

Hi, Learo.

The better one is the one with the color you like. Otherwise the engines are identical.

Closest dealer, best price and warranty are all you need to worry about.

Good luck. :)

Learo2000,

Your question is abit vague, and I'll try to tell you what I know...IF the engines are 4-STROKE 140's they are both manufactured by Suzuki....Bombardier bought OMC(Johnson/Evinrude) a few years ago and has been improving the Johnsons and Evinrudes. I would suggest you ask the dealers you are working with.

The new Johnsons/Evinrudes all have a small circular sticker on the cowling showing Bombardier.Good Luck.

The Johnson dealer cannot do Suzuki warranty work nor can the Suzuki dealer do Johnson warranty work.

Doug
Both motors are built by Suzuki difference is Johnson has White paint and Johnson logo. That is what I was saying in the post in boating section. I would shop for the best price and warranty. I would also try and find out which one stocks the most parts. Factor for me is I know where 5 Bombardier/Johnson/Evinrude dealers are and have not been able to find a Suzuki dealer. I would also check Yamaha and Mercury.
