I have 2 Mitchell 300x reels and both work great. I've been using Stren string and have been having a problem with it. Most of the time it works great but there are times that it decides to tangle in one big knot when casting. Some people told me it's my reel. I've never had problems until I went to the Stren. What do you guys like? Lookin for suggestions on what to use to cure this little problem. I hate when I'm out there and cast.................bang one big handfull of loops and knots. There's times I had to cut the line and end up fishing with about 40 yards on line. That stinks.

The only time I have ever had a problem with line on a spinning reel is when I spooled it on backward. And that can be fixed by letting all your line unspool behind a slow moving boat and then reel it back up. Could also be worn or nicked rod eyes, guides or what ever they're called.

McCoy. No memory, no tangles. I love the stuff. But it comes down to personal preference. Which is better, Ford Dodge or Chevy? Point is, is that they all have their strong points, based on what you are fishing for, what rod, what bait..

I've tried them all and the line about line being line ain't true! Lots of household money has been spent over the years for the stuff and everytime I tried a new one I was dissapointed to the max. Kept going back to an old favorite (Royall Bonnyl) by "Garcia and now they don't make it any more! I am thinking about "Shakespear's" (Cajun Red) fore this year! Any one out there tried it yet?

Your statement is like saying that you drive a chevy,Which one?

The old Stren floresent blue is about the softest line Ive ever used, If it is the Florocarbon, you are going to have problems if you spool too heavy of a line on a spinning real. I think you could use a 14# with the floresent, but maybe only a 10# with the florocarbon line. For this reason, I dont like florocarbon line on any spinning reel.

Also, if you are using a very lighweight bait, you wont wind the line tight enough and that alone will cause spooloffs. Like a weightless worm where you are reeling without much tension at all, or a jerk bait where you are reeling slack line all the time.

One thing about spinning reels is that if you give 'em any slack they'll probably get tangled, and if your line is twisted it will get tangled. Sorry, that's two things.

If you turn the anti-reverse off & forget to turn it back on, there's a good chance you'll get some slack, which will form a loop, which will get caught under the spool or around the handle or something.

I have two spinning reels with braided line (powerPro) on the spare spools. The braid is more forgiving of twist - doesn't loop and tangle quite so easily. Still haven't decided whether I prefer it to mono - I keep switching back & forth.

Mostly, just don't give it any slack! And use swivel with any bait that's likely to twist.

Bearcamp I use a new mitchell 300x also have some of the old ones that were made in France (retiered them). I don't like Stren at all. I use Berkley Trilene XT for about 25 years now and do not have any problems with it . There is a lot of new line on the market but Berkley has not let me down. I may try some of the new fishing line this year.

Stren Blue floresent makes Trilene XT feel like stainless steel wire. I despise Trilene of any kind.

guess thats what makes the world go round.

I don't like stretch....therefore I use Berkley products such as sensathin, XT and fireline...big-game on my catfish rods, fire-line on spinning gear, sensathin on most of my baitcasters, and when flippin' short distance, I like XT.
