600cfm is more than enough.

it has been my exp. that anything bigger than a 650 on a small block --will load up at the docking , and any low idles - of course you can CAM up the motor to use a bigger carb--just make sure any carb you use is a center pivot float--as the q-jet spreadbore from chev, possibly one of the best for marine use--and exc. for your duel plane mnfd.just my thoughts !

To go along with this question..
Are you guys rejetting the edelbrock or using it straight out of the box?
I have the 1409 and it runs a tad rich at idle and has a small flat spot at around 2500-3000 rpm's..
I don't like the fact it doesn't have a PCV connection... anybody ever drill out the place it's supposed to go?

All the ones I have installed have run good out of the box; that said, rejetting may be needed for different climates or altitudes depending on location (I'm close to sea level). As most boats don't have a PCV valve, no I never have drilled one out, but you surely could

The 1409 is 600cfm and is tuned for sbc out of the box. Some tuning "might" be needed, but most report that none was needed. The idle mixture and idle speed do need to be adjusted. That should correct any idle richness.

The 1410 750cfm "can" be used on a 350, but will need allot more tuning. It comes precalibrated for a larger engine (around 400cu+). Merc used 750cfm webers and q-jets on 350MAG and 5.7LX. These are both vacuum sec, so they only flow what is needed. I would only go the 1410 route if you were going to rebuild and make a 383 out of it, in the near future.

I am not aware of any production marine carb having the large vacuum port. If you need it?, there is a plug on the intake, or can add carb spacer with one. Drilling the plug out and pressing a fitting in should work, but one slip and carb can be toast.
