Hello:

I am considering getting a spare prop. I have a 15Ft aluminum bass boat with a 1990 40Hp Evenrude. The current prop is aluminum 12.25 x 15. When I look at the iboat options, there are several brands with greatly varying prices. Which is the best overall deal? My boat is used for fishing in the river and the river bottom is quite rocky, so I will likely need to get the prop repaired at least once per summer. I am still looking for used, but can not find what I need.

My rig is very similar to yours but the prop is 10.375x14. (16' Semi-v aluminum, 40hp Merc.) I have yet to check RPM at WOT but one or both of our props must not be correct. Have you checked your RPM?

Do not have a tach, but at max throttle, the prop (or motor, I am not sure which) does rev up and down just a little.

Your boat appears to be (At least in the picture) is a v or semi-v. Mine is flat bottomed. I am not sure what difference that makes.

12.25x15P aluminum props are fairly standard for your engine and boat combination. They also readily available used and new in aluminum or stainless. If you have a tendency to hit bottom then I'd suggest an aluminum prop. Check Craigs List or E-bay for used and new props. Right here on iBoats you have a choice of several manufacturers. On a 40 HP motor an inexpensive prop is perfectly acceptable and will perform well. If you get one with the exchangeable hub system you buy one hub kit and if you damage the prop, you buy a very inexpensive replacement.
