I ordered my first ever NEW boat yesterday, and I have my choice of ANY carburated 150 available.

So, which one is best? Low maintenance, dependable, and fastest?

It's going on a Stratos 190FS, and apparently cost is no object, since the price I paid includes "my choice" of carburated 150.

Help me out guys!

I would choose the Johnson, Bama.

The Yamaha is also a good engine.

Good luck. :)

Bama,

I'm kind of in the same situation but patiently waiting for some things to happen since I don't plan on taking delivery until spring 2004. Not sure of when you plan on driving home with the new boat but my dealer informs me Yamaha will debut the first 150hp 4 stroke any day now.

Price? Weight? Availability?

Kevin

Re: Which brand 150?

Every person I have spoken to personally has mentioned Yamaha as their first or second choice. I had never really thought about Yamaha, but then, I show my ignorance, don't I? :D

Since four stroke is one of the things I know I want, I'm not sure if I should wait for the Yamaha four stroke or accept the 2 stroke and just deal with it.

Dang! I'm more confused now than ever! Around here, if you aren't in the water by late September, you may as well not even think about it again until Spring, but being married and all, I have to strike while the iron is hot. . . . I'm sure none of you guys know what I am talking about? :p

Thanks for all the input. I'm open to hear anything else you may have to say!

Re: Which brand 150?

Hi there Bams,

Don't know if I'll be of much help, but if it were me, I would ask myself honestly how much I am going to use the new boat. I personally don't think you can go wrong with either the Johnson, Yamaha, or even the Merc. They're carbed engines are all proven quality engines. As for the four strokes, many experts in this web hideout will tell you that a four stroke needs to be used probably more than the two stroke on average. That sounds about right here...if nothing else, the four stroke costs more so yours truly would want to get the moneys worth. I'm betting you would sleep much better at night with the Yammy 150 because of its rep. It's a fine machine with little gripes from motorheads on the average. Just my two cents.
