Hi All,

Ok, I finally got it down to a certain style boat I want next season.(used boat of course)
My needs are Large aft cockpit, large cabin.
So I'm down to a 31 silverton, 28 carver, 28 trojan, 28 winner cabin, 28 chris craft. All in the 1979- 1985 range.

Question: Which boat might handle the open seas better in terms of crusing 2-4' swells, rocking & rolling while drifting, etc..

I know nothing about hull types or dead rise stuff so I was wondering if anyone had one of these babies that might share their stories.

Thanks,
Lou

Stunod
Any boat that size should handel 10 foot seas safely as long as not less than 8 seconds appart. I really do not know enough about the boats you listed to tell you which.
In general if you look at the bow the deeper the V the better the ride. The same holds true for the stern but but does not have as big an effect.
With a deep V on the stern will help with a following sea. The deeper the V the more roll you will get and also the more fuel you will use. Also the deeper the V the more draft you will have.

I would think while drifting they'd be quite similar but underway the hull design would be much more noticeable. I had a 1968 Chris Craft 26' express and got caught in a nasty storm (for these waters) the boat handled it a lot better than I'd have thought, so I'm partial to Chris Crafts. I like the 'style' of thier boats too. Your list has some nice choices... if it were me I'd pick the boat that looks the best because they're all decent quality. You can't really go wrong. Happy shopping.
