Your pic didn't come thru. Need more info like the year and hp. of your Stern Drive. I'll just go to Marineengine. com for their great parts diagrams. You may not need a fully assembled driveshaft hsg., depending on the damage. Sierra and GLM provide good alum. gear cases at a lmuch lower cost than Merc. Also prop shafts and other inards. You will have to shim the FWD gear set if you do it yourself. GLM sells complete hsgs. that can be less expensive than piecing one together. But you need to know your Stern Drive gear ratio so your get the correct one.

Thank you very much guys. For now I am going to replace the prop and look into getting a new skeg welded on. But if that doesn’t work out you have given me what I need to replace the lower unit. You guys rock! Thanks again.

If the damage is just the skeg and prop take it to a prop shop. They can weld on a new skeg and you would never know. My buddy had to do it on his and it only cost him $100. You may want to pressure test the drive and check the prop shaft for trueness.

Check to see if the propshaft got bent. Easy to do. Run the engine, on muffs, with the prop off. At the end of the propshaft there is a drilled taper. With the drive in gear, place a pencil in the taper, any deviance in the shaft from straight will show. What type of insurance do you have on the boat?
On impacts the case often distorts out of round and/or the area at the rear of the skeg gets pushed upwards, when that happens, the bearing carrier may not be removable.
