Where's this oil coming from?

Just got this 1998 Evinrude 9.9 hp 4-stroke E10R4EEB last week. The trailer and boat to which it was attached got loose on the freeway during the ride home. Needless to say, the engine was jostled around a bit. It did not come loose or flip over, even though the whole shootin-match went airborne upon impacting a concrete barrier. The boat slid forward on the trailer, so the lower end of the engine probably contacted the trailer, although there is no visible damage.

I flushed the engine with fresh water and it ran fine. However, I have noticed a fair amount of oil collecting on the anti-ventillation plate and dripping onto my garage floor. I think it is crankcase oil. I don't know if that was a problem that existed before the freeway follies. I'm sure the old owner won't admit to it now. There is no obvious source visible with the engine cover off.

Any ideas on this oil leak?

Any suggestions

stanky1,

I believe the oil reservoir is in the top of the leg.

I'll bet something took a shot. I would be looking for cracks.

Stanky....you can remove the lower pan/leg cover by removing 6 retaining torx head screws. The cover will come off in two pieces. May let ya' get a better look at things.
