It's called a HIN (hull identification number) and is "usually" on the transom on the outside either molded in or on a plate/label.

Ayuh,... If there's a vin, it's on the upper starboard side of the transom....

thank you ok its called a hin i understand some early boats didn't have one not much out there on orlando clipper's without hin how do i know it's age

boats prior to 1972 were not required to have a vin

I have a '54 orlando clipper and mine is on the dash right beside the steering wheel, But it has the manufactuer, serial ,and where it was made.. hope it helps.
