wheres the sticky for rectifiers?

i have replaced the rectifier on my 86 50hp force. now there is this purple wire (generator) should it be connected to the rectifier? cant seem to find the sticky on the rectifier issues.

My knowledge comes from an 89 150hp. So I hope this helps. There should only be 4 wires on your voltage reg/ rectifier. 2 yellows go to your AC wires that come off the stator. 1 black wire the gets grounded. That leaves you with 1 red wire. This one goes to a circuit breaker which from there it should give yuour battery 14.4 volts to recharge. See pic below.

the purple wire is for your tach if you have one, it connects to either one of the ac terminals on the rectifier
