I picked up a (very cheap) Johnson from about 1960, pretty sure it's a 7.5 hp.

Cleaned out carb, cleaned and set points, primed with bulb on fuel tank line and pulled starter.

Fires almost every time, sometimes runs for a few seconds but then needs fuel pumping again before it'll fire.

The fuel line from the tank goes to a connector on the baseplate, from there to the carb. Obviously this needs to have fuel running uphill to work!

Is there supposed to be a fuel pump somewhere on the engine that has gone astray on mine? Or do I just hold the tank over my head all the time....

Here's a pic of it if it's any help.
