Re: Where's Magster?

Hey.
I'm still here.
I just haven't spent much time at the keyboard lately.
Bein' a busy daddy :) I love it!
My kid's 3 already and all I can say about that is 'WOW'! Where did that time go?
Boat update; I sold the Tolly. I have another little 'unit' that I bought to fix up and sell. The repairs are just about done and it'll be in the next local 'boat journal'. I'm still looking for the 'right' boat. What's new here anyways? Who bought a new boat, got married, dumped or... whatever? I need some iboat gossip!
Did DB Tubtoy ever resurface?
Here's my latest 'fixer upper'.
(not me in the pic... I had the camera)

23 Baja Bandit.
7.4 with a Bravo 1.
A solid 65 mph w/people and lotsa' fuel.

Re: Where's Magster?

Well I have no comment about yer unit, but cool boat. That must be a 454 MPI if it does 65, no?

Good to "see" you. No BD as far as I can tell . . .

Re: Where's Magster?

Thanks Triton.
Nope QC, that'd be a rochester 4v... the speed is correct. I had to take the GPS and see the real numbers 'cause the speedo said 75 and I knew it wasn't that fast :)
It feels like it though... that 'windshield' directs the wind right into your face! It's hard to breathe like that!
That was Sunday I took the picture. If you notice the rain hitting the water... rain hurts at 65 huh?

Re: Where's Magster?

I'm quiet for a bit, now look...
I took the Baja out for a 'shake down' to test it out then the following day out for a 'trip'. What a joke as far as what I'm used to. I cruised in the Tolly at 8 mph usually... so what a difference as far as destinations go! I travelled, in an afternoon, as far as I did on my 5 day trip last year (further actually). I'm not used to this hotrod stuff... I can see why some people feel the need for speed, what a blast!

Re: Where's Magster?

Well the speed blows my mind Pretty efficient hull. Wow. Yes, the ability to go 100+ miles in a little day trip including stops for lunch, swimming, tubing etc. does get addicting. The only problem is at the gas docks.

They used to put those little reverse raked windshields on boats like that. Kinda ugly, but they really worked. Now it's form before function . . .  Can't make up my mind :D

Re: Where's Magster?

Thank you for the kind words folks :)
I never eloped with BD, no. She wasn't feeling well the last time we chatted. I hope everything is ok.
QC - It pulls 5100 rpm at 65 mph... yep, too many rpm. It has a 23" pitch 3 blade prop so I've borrowed a 24" 4 blade from a buddy and I'll put that on next time out. It doesn't need any more speed but it tends to porpoise a little at capacity (5 people and full fuel) unless you're going fast and trimmed all the way down. I hate boats that porpoise! It sits bow-high... there's absolutely nothing up front so I'll put some weight in there to see if that helps any as well.
LF - Glad to see you still talk to me after my 'blondes making the tuna smell' joke ;)

I've been setting up my boats to slightly porpoise at full speed, full trim, then control the porpoise with trim tabs. Seems to be the fastest combo. Adjustable tabs would make that boat perfect . . .

Re: Where's Magster?

hehe
Yeah, the trailer wiring is shot, the brakes need some attention (sticky), none of lights work on the boat, the windscreen needs to be fixed, there's some gelcoat repairs needed, the electric/hydraulic hatch mechanism is spewing, half the switches on the dash don't work, the tilt steering has way too much play in it, the seats are broken, the rear armrests are busted too... there's a few other things I don't like. Such as; the control cables rattle against the hull, you can see the wiring everywhere (gotta' hide it and zap strap it neatly), a few bits of hardware to replace that isn't SS, the boat needs all the safety equipment installed, I want to mount a couple fire extinguishers... etc. Then it needs a good polish and a 'for sale' sign :)

I didn't mean it needs a resto :)
