where to place the Pitot???

Hello,<br />I'm about to replace the Pitot on my boat and would like to do it once and correctly. The arm of the Pitot is shaped like a planes wing and I'm not sure where to place this Pitot. I do know it must be at the stern of the boat and the arm must be at the bottom the transom. But do I need to be concerned if it is on the port or starboard side of the transom???<br />Thanks alot for any input<br />Mike and son Zach really enjoying the boat projects.

What side you put it on does,nt matter. Mount it far enough from the gearcase so that it cant flow into the prop stream. The directions that came with it should give the dimention.

When I replace mine I use the same holes as the old one. It just must be in a constant stream of water.

i don't think it matters. i have 1 on each side and they're rarely the same.

Make sure it is NOT behind a hull strake or a rivet line, if it's an aluminum boat.

I placed my Pitot in the trash and use a GPS for speed. I'm much happier now.<br /><br />Israel Hands
