I've got a 2000 tracker pro deep v17. I'm upgrading the depthfinder and trying to find the best location to mount it the transducer. I've included a picture to make things clearer. I can't mount it where the existing transducer is b/c the existing one currently hits the bunk on the new trailer. I would mount it just to the right, but there is a strake/rib there and I'm worried about turbulance. So I can mount it a little further to the right, but then I'm only 8-9" away from the corner, will that be a problem? The other option is going towards the center, but I'm a little worried about getting to close to the lower unit, Lowrance says you should avoid being closer than 12" from the lower unit due to turbulance, and to the left of the bunk with enough clearance would be about 11". So what do you guys think? My first boat, my first project with it. have a friend who will help thats done it before, just don't want to be drilling more holes than necessary. Should I consider one of those plastic plates to mount it to?
Thanks in advance.

Re: where to mount transducer?

I bought a kitchen cutting board,it's bout 1/2" thick and cut a small square just enough for the base of transducer.Used PL from Home Depot, roughed up glue side and glued it to transom, and used short screws.I didn't want the holes either. From the pics.I'd move it to the right a tad to miss bunk,as mentioned and see if it effects it,I don't think it will.IF it does, just relocate it.

Re: where to mount transducer?

I'm going to try a piece of Starboard bolted above the waterline and extending down to the bottom. I'll cut a t-slot into the back of the starboard, flame it, and 5200 it to the alum hull. I'll them mount the transducer, etc to that. It should in theory make for no holes below the waterline.
