Hi, I'm new to this site and to the boating world. I'm looking for a nice used little fishing boat.

What site provide classified used boats? I live in Watertown, NY

I already know a few (craigstlist, iboats, boats.com). Do anyone have other popular websites

Thanks

You go to a car dealer to buy a car, why not at least start at a marine (boat) dealer for used boats. Look in the yellow pages for marine dealers/boat dealers/marinas. Then jot down the web sites and visit them. Most will list used boats and motors in stock along with prices.

I found mine on "CraigsList". I expanded my viewing area and accually drove 2hours to look at it. Be prepaired to spend additional money after the sale to get her the way you want it. Also, take someone with you that knows a little something about boats so you have an idea of what your looking at. Regards

Re: Where to look to buy a used boat

Sorry, but there is nothing for sale anywhere near Watertown! Jusk kidding - I grew up in Brownville, parents are on Chaumont Bay. Actually, when I was looking for the last couple of months, I took a drive up there and found a ton of boats sitting out with for sale signs on them.

Some websites: Ebay, CList, Boat Trader, Boats.com, iBoats, onlineboatsales.com, boatsville.com, boatboss.com, yachts.com (if you have more to spend than me). Another thing that worked for me was to find a particular make and model that I was interested in and just type it into google. The majority of Google hits come back as items for sale (I imagine that is how they make money). Lastly, and the one that worked for me, was to use www.searchtempest.com to search multiple city Craigslists at one time. Warning on this - be specific on your search, or you will have a ton of hits. I ended up finding a boat that fit my needs and price range about 5 hours away outside of Pittsburg.

Good luck and happy boating.

Go to Google Maps and do a search on "Boat Dealers near Watertown, NY" and you'll get 10 hits close to Watertown. Pick the closest ones first and work your way out. Finding what you're looking for all depends on how much you're willing to part with for a new to you boat.

He said 250,000 (add an order of magnitude), but I just figured you hit the counter max & rolled it around again :)

Re: Where to look to buy a used boat

thanks for the help everyone

There's no good boats near Watertown... snif snif. I'm looking for a sport and fish boat

I went to a couple of boat dealers and the prices are high! I've rather buy a new boat for the price they are asking!

I found some boats near NYC (fresh water according the the owner) for a good price. I will go and take a look at them this weekend

I still don't feel like I've seen this "buyer's market" everyone keeps talking about, nor do I see tons of steals on craigslist, etc. Maybe I'm not looking right or my expectations are too high (I don't want another old boat even if it is cheap). Everything new & decent that I see (when I see it) still seems pretty pricey.

Exactly! A brand new runabout with a 90hp is around 11k (without taxes and transport) brand new.
Try to find a used boat (used in fresh water) built between 2005-2008 for less than 7k. I've rather pay the extra and buy it brand new since any reparation on the hull/outboard can be expensive and cover the difference!
