I have a 1999 Sugar Sand Tango with a Mercury Sport Jet 175xr2 that I can't seem to start.
I got hold of a service manual and found that the stator was out of spec so I pulled it and found very rusted stator. I just replaced it with a CDI aftermarket today and was hoping to start her right up...
Engine started after about 10-15 seconds of starting. Engine was idling ok, but blue smoke was rolling which didn't suprise me because of how much cranking I had done the previous week trying to get her started. Tried to back the throttle down to idle and engine died. Immediately tried to restart with no success.
Haven't been able to get even so much of a cough since with probly 5 to 10 minutes of intermittent starting.
Interesting thing is, I can get it to fire probably one revolution or so if I turn the fuel enhancer (choke) off and push the throttle all the way down. But nothing more than a short fire and then dead.
I am getting spark on all cylinders.
If anyone can help I would surely appreciate it... I don't know where to go from here.
