I recently bought a boat and the trailer has very nice guides that stick up about 2 feet above the trailer making it easy to see when loading the boat.

As you can see, however, these guides are made of about 2 inch angle iron. So, the first time my boat touched one of them when I was loading it on a windy day I scratched the paint a little.

I'm thinking the least expensive way to remedy this situation would be to find a few feet of some big rubber pipe (like maybe 4-6" diameter), cut it in half, and secure it to each of the guides. I can't find any rubber pipe that large. The home stores only carry little stuff. I would prefer rubber over that plastic drain tile.

Any ideas who might carry such large rubber pipe or any other ideas for softening the guides.

Thanks.

How about heavy carpet fastened w/nylon wire ties.

I would just go down to Lowe's or Home Depot and get the foam pipe insullation tubes. They are split with the adhesive already applied on the edges - so all you have to do is wrap around your guides, stick the edges together, and your done! I use them on my bimini frame to keep the "HOT" frame from melting my curtains - works like a champ and CHEAP!

I suggest 4" white PVC pipe, JJ.

Low friction, no marks on the boat.

Good luck. :)

Yes, PVC pipe is the way to go. I happen to use black because I had some on hand, but white might be better in avoiding marks. I looked at buying some "ready made" ones from a boat store and saw they were just made of PVC pipe with end caps on one end.
