Hi all!

I think i'm buying a new carb for a 3.0 Volvo. Do any of you experts out there know where to get it cheapest? Dougrussell increased its price for about $150 - now costs over $500... I'm coming from Europe, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried on Ebay, but there are only rochesters & mercruiser carbs on there.

Thanx,

Alex

It may very well be a bad choke coil, not a bad carb. $50 instead of $500.
After the engine is warmed up, check and see if the choke is open.
Could also be a bad needle and seat, or float, or even a float setting causing it to flood. Lots of things to check before buying a new carb.
What year is it?

It's a 1994... The choke is ok, it opens when the engine is warm - i checked it. My mechanic rebuilt the carb completely before first use (i bought the boat a year ago). Didn't change the float though; everything else was changed (i bought the holley rebuild kit on dougrussell). How to check the float?

Carb has to be disassembled (top off). If your not familiar with the internals of a carb, have your mech friend take it apart. The float can be checked by simply dropping it in a small bowl of gas. If it floats...it's good. If it sinks...even a little, replace it. There is a tool that comes with the rebuild kit with instructions for the setting.

The float must be weighed to see if it has absorbed fuel, if it needs replaceing replace with a alcohol resistant float

Volvo uses a Holley 2 bbl on its 3 litre models. Holley uses a hollow brass float. You can shake it and listen for trapped fuel.
Alex. When your mechanic rebuilt the carb he might have set the float too high or installed the float damper sring(s) (used on some holleys) incorrectly
