Where to get 40 HP Merc manual, and where motor Serial#, any maint. hints?

After fooling around yesterday afternoon and finally getting my Merc 40 started - old gas/pre mix was bad!!, Swapped to extra tank, installed fuel filter in line before bulb, finally started w/ lots of starting fluid down carb, - I'd like to get a manual or info/schematics online on how to remove motor "case" to get to fuel pump, carb, water pump, etc. Also is there any filters(no visible) that you need to change? I'm a good mechanic but 2 strokes are kinda new to me. I did replace lots of corroded engine wires, etc. I'd also maybe next winter like to change entire wiring harness - lots of splices in mine. I'd suggest going to MErcury's web page and ordering a shop manual. It will be specific to your engine and not generalized. I had a Seloc manual for mine and it was ok but Merc's was way better. Good luck
