Where to find discontinued cowl seals??

I am restoring the "look" of my 1987 Johnson 140 VRO V4. I am stripping decals, painting, then applying new decals. As part of the project, I would like to replace the ratty old cowl seal, however this is apparently an obsolete part at Johnson/Evinrude. Just wondering if anybody knows of any places online where I can purchase a new aftermarket seal. I have the old one removed (it was stapled on with heavy duty stainless staples, which I kept to re-install the new one- if I can find one).

Okay seems you are not the only one that is looking for a cowl seal (not the old group either). I had the exact same problem when I rebuilt my '76 Johnson 40HP OB about a year ago now. It was obsolete as well, BUT, it seems that they actually used the same profile seal on their newer OBs and I bought one for a different OB engine and cut about four inches off of it to make it fit mine. Same exact profile but a little longer. So maybe you can look and see if their newer models are still available and do the same... JMHO! The cost was reasonable too!

There is one dealer in the US that has a new seal still in stock: GULF MARINE OF CLEARWATER, INC, 405 N FORT HARRISON AVE, CLEARWATER, FL, 33755-3904 (727) 442-5175 Give them a call and ask for part number: 210709. There are 3 dealers in the US that have new stock on the superceded part number: 912032.

I need one for my 86' 110 Johnson and it shows available but I haven't bought it yet. Yours shows available here: OMC, Johnson & Evinrude - ENGINE COVER - JOHNSON - 1987 Johnson/Evinrude 120-140

GO to your nearest auto junk yard, pop open the trunk on any late model peel the trunk rim seal off and you now have enough to do several outboards
