ok this sounds dumb but where should i attach the anchor rope to this boat? Will the side cleat work ok. I will be anchoring in pretty strong currents sometimes.

My guess would be a short leed from the bow eye, tied off to the cleat.
When anchoring required, connect a longer rode with anchor to the short leed and turf it over.
Be sure to add a piece of rope (think of a Y with one leg to the anchor and one end stays up with you) to were the short and long rode meat, so your not on your belly trying to pull the line in.:)

Is that a center cleat I see behind the horns? If it is, that's the place, but you should also have a set of bow chocks to lead the anchor line over the bow. I don't see any of those.

You'd mount them on either side of that racing stripe, close to the edge where the deck turns down to the rub rail Through-bolted to the deck, backed with fender washers. That arrangement and hardware will hold the bow straight into wind and current, which is how you want the boat to ride at anchor.

The cleats on either side of the bow will probably work okay, but you'd be better off setting things up as I described above. NEVER anchor from a stern cleat alone.

Good luck!

Do you think there will be enough meat under the center cleat?

I agree, you can fabricate a "Bridal" using both side cleats. but the big one in the center looks to be the supporting choice.

We were posting at the same time :)

Normally that's what a center cleat is there for. Given the age of the boat, hard to say if the backing is still solid, but that's true of the bow eye and side cleats, too. But like I said, he'd need to add chocks, or the anchor line will rip the horn off the boat.

The OP mentioned strong currents, so wanted to give him a good solid option. Given the size of the boat, your way may be just as good.

forgot to mention the boat is a 14' 79 Aerocraft. I'm going to sign the papers work on the boat on Thr so i'll get a better look at the center chalk after that. I'll use the bow eye this weekend till i figure out which way would be best to do it.

My Sylvan didn't have a descent anchor point so I added a heavy cleat in the centre (3/8 bolts through the foredeck and the wood support member underneath) and a couple of chocks, one each side of the bow light. I suspect the centre cleat on your boat is quite substantial as well.
