During the last ten years I have been crappie fishing at Weiss lake, alabama in the spring. Ten years prior to that I was spring crappie fishing at Kentucky lake. Does anyone recommend any other lakes where slab crappie can be caught. Weiss Lake in alabama has a 10 inch limit, so there are good size slabs to be had. I am presently planning to go there april 2003. Really looking for new territory to explore, but not waste time. :)

Any of the lakes off the St Johns River in Cental Fla have good Crappie fishing (we call them specs) some lakes have 12 inch limits and it is still easy to get 25 or so at this size.

John

Best crappie fishing anywhere is Lake Eufaula in SE Oklahoma. It's about 80 miles south of Tulsa. I'm just beginning to learn the in and outs of this big lake. Some of my co-workers won't fish any where else.

Well, I don't know about Alabama, but for Oklahoma DEFisher is correct. I live on lake Tenkiller and I drive a hour away to lake Eufala to do Crappie fishing.

ghostrider,

If you haven't fished the Jack's Creek area of the Santee-Cooper (Lake Marion/Lake Moultrie) in South Carolina, give that a try. Used to live near there; caught some really nice crappie around Jack's Creek. Other areas of Santee-Cooper as well but Jack's Creek was most productive.

Most definately Beaver Lake Arkansas. Caught my limit almost everytime I went last year. Set a new personal record last fall with my biggest slab ever. Measured in at just under 16 1/2". State Record was just shy of 18".

The Chippewa Flowage in nw Wisconsin. Lots of flooded wood to hold 12-15 inchers. Uncle has a 16.5 incher on the wall from the "Chip" as we call it. Guide service available to get you to the right logs. This is also a PRIME musky lake, bordered by reservation and undeveloped State gov't land. I friend of mine makes one trip here every year, and still uses a guide service. "Well worth it" he says.

The undisputed Crappie Capitol of the World is still Toledo Bend on the border of Texas and Louisiana. Have seen many pictures of my dad and his buddies with big ice chests full of crappie. The few time that I have been there it was not hard to catch your limit within a matter of a few hours.

Re: Where is the best Crappie fishing???

I appreciate all of the good Crappie info. I wish I had the money and the time to just run a circuit and fish all of the spots listed, But we know what happens if you wish in one hand and well you know in the other hand which one will fill up first. I will hit Santee Cooper this year and I know I'll get to Arkansas, tennesee, Kentucky and Alabama, and if the the lord sees fit somday I'll get to the other great places listed here. Thanx guys!! Ghostrider, come on up to Ohio, I've fished Hoover Res for a good many years.
Here really soon the water temp will be just right.

Two weeks ago I caught a half dozen, they were deep though (28+'). Two were over eleven and a half, they're in the freezer. I'm looking forward to this upcoming weekend.

The absolute best crappie fishing is Rice Lake in Ontario, Canada. I used to fish there for years with a friend, and we'd catch at least 100 crappies. Then we would have a huge fish fry for about 20 people in the trailer park. What a blast.

Scroll down to 2009 Florida State Championship
Harris Chain of Lake, Tavares, FL.
Jan. 23 & 24, 2009 in the below link. They pulled some decent crappie in this tourney back January.

We have an Iboats gathering taking place at Lake Griffin State Park the weekend of May 15th. Lake Griffin, Harris, and Eustis are host to many tournaments throughout the year plus all of the local leagues who probably wish I'd shut up about our water!!!

I have to go along with NathanY on Toldedo Bend Resevoir between Texas and Louisiana. Lots of timber there and on Lake Sam Rayburn and most all East Texas lakes your going to find plenty of slabs on the brushpiles and up the creeks.

Central Ohio, Water temp is just now reaching 65. The res. where I go has the water level extremely high resulting with the Crappie staying deep. The out of the way state dock was placed two weeks ago, yesterday I had to put on the boots cause it (the dock's walk ramp) was four feet out from the water's edge. Only caught four, the talk at the ramp resulted with everyone having low numbers.

Tunica Lake Miss Is my fovorite crappie fishing lake, I was stationed in Memphis for a few years, an fished any lakes in that area, all are out standing but Tunica was my favorite ,I manage to catch crappie there most all times during the year, its a oxbow lake and is replenished during the river high water in the spring, not being far from the casino, isn't a bad deal either.
