Where is power trim/tilt fill?

I hope someone is familiar with this power trim/tilt unit. It's on a 70's vintage 85HP outboard. I wasn't able to get the motor to go down until I opened the screws on the trim cylinders. I got it to go down as long as I don't put it all the way up. When going up it sounds like the trim motor is really laboring and it squeals when it goes up. I have never added any oil to the trim motor so I'm assuming it's low on oil. The trim motor says to use only 20 weight oil but the oil that came out of the cylinders was red like transmission fluid so I'm not ever sure what kind of oil to add.

I cannot find any place to fill this stupid thing. It's in a horrible place to get to but I felt around the unit and couldn't feel a fill hole. Is it possible the slotted screw on the front of the unit the fill hole? It looks like it makes access to the trim motor which is why I don't think that is the fill hole.

Is anyone familiar with this unit that can tell me where the fill hole is?

Russ

Theres a plug on top of the reservoir. Its kind of a pain to get to.

Ive seen all kinds of fluid in those things. Enough to think they don't care what kind of oil they run. I filled one with 2 cycle oil and ran it for a couple of years that way.

Thanks for the reply. I'm assuming the reservoir is the square part of the unit on the bottom? I have looked and looked and just can't find a plug. The round part of the unit I'm assuming is the trim motor but could the fill be on top of that?

Russ, on the top right of the reservoir is a round head slotted stainless steel screw. That is the fill. It sounds like you have ATF in it, so use more Dextron ATF to fill it. You may need to bleed the cylinders, if the pump/reservoir is real low.
